As a “DOT” Qualified Substance Abuse Professional I evaluate employees who have violated a DOT drug and/or alcohol regulation and make recommendations concerning education, treatment, follow up testing and aftercare. In order to become a SAP, the SAP must have certain credentials, possess specific knowledge, receive training and achieve a passing score on the examination. All requirements must be met before the SAP can perform any SAP functions. There is also a continuing education requirement.
As a SAP I use the FMCSA Commercial Driver’s License Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse database as required by 49 CFR Part 40, to report specific information about a CDL driver’s Return-To Duty activities. This database provides real time information about CDL driver drug and alcohol program violations, making it difficult for drivers to conceal these violations from current or prospective employers. The Clearinghouse rule does not change any existing SAP responsibilities or functions required in 49 CFR Part 40.
As a SAP I Must per Part 40:
-
Register with the Clearinghouse.
-
Confirm the driver’s request as their SAP in the Clearinghouse, once I haveagreed to work with him/her per Part 40.
-
Report the date of the driver's initial assessment.
-
Report the date I determine the driver is eligible for Return-To-Duty Testing in theClearinghouse.
As a “DOT” Qualified SAP I conduct all appointments Face-To Face (In Person) all appointments must be scheduled by calling my number directly at (770) 853-6177.
